... and 5G for everyone. Here is the new Motorola Moto G 5G Plus
Motorola's new smartphone introduces super-fast connectivity to the medium shelf. This is the Moto G 5G Plus.
Smartphones with 5G connectivity are quite expensive so far. In part, this is due to the need to use a more expensive processor - at least a Snapdragon 765 5G - and in part to the need to obtain appropriate certifications for each of the markets in which the smartphone is to operate.
As the infrastructure expands and the number of devices increases, the price begins to drop slowly, and just like a year ago it was basically impossible to buy a 5G smartphone for less than PLN 4,000, so this year there are also devices from PLN 2,000-3,000 that will combine with a new type of network.
Motorola lowers the price bar even further.
The new Motorola Moto G 5G Plus (try to say it out loud five times in a row, at a fast pace ...) at the time of market debut will cost 349 - 399 euros, so even in the most expensive variant will not break the limit of PLN 2,000.
We don't know the official Polish price yet, but if I were to return from coffee grounds, I would see PLN 1599 and 1799 at the bottom of the cup. We will find out what it will be like in the coming weeks.
Of course, as the name suggests, the most important distinguishing feature of Moto G 5G Plus is 5G connectivity.
It is enabled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 5G processor with a suitable modem, which has been paired with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of data space.
The whole is powered by a 5000 mAh battery, which in normal use should provide at least two days of work away from the socket. The cells will be charged via USB-C with a 20 W charger.
Visually ... well, this is definitely Motorola, although this time the design of the device turns in the direction strongly inspired by a large Chinese company. The backs of the device do not stand out too much against other medium-sized devices, just like the arrangement of the cameras, which is a typical "gas stove" as in many other smartphones in this segment.
Four sensors are located under its "burners":
- 48 megapixels with wide angle lens
- 5 megapixels with a macro lens, which - hurray - is a longer focal length lens
- 8 megapixels with ultrawide lens
- 2 megapixels with depth sensor
There's also a very popular fingerprint reader on the edge recently - a great decision.
At the bottom is a single mono speaker.
On the front there is a 6.7 "display, Full HD + resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate and 21: 9 aspect ratio, which I personally like very much. The phone is thus slightly narrower and easier to hold with one hand.
The screen disperses not one, but two holes for the front cameras - one of them has 16 Mpix and a standard wide-angle lens, the other 8 Mpix and an ultrawide lens.
The whole housing has dimensions of 168 x 74 x 9 mm, weight of 207 g and although it is not certified by any waterproof standard, Motorola claims that it is splashproof. Therefore, removing the telephone in the rain should not be a problem.
The manufacturer also took to heart the harsh criticism of the lack of NFC in some models and this time it even boasts in press materials that Moto G 5G Plus NFC has contactless payments.
And very good, because at this price and class the lack of NFC would be a spit in the consumer's face.
To all this, of course, there is almost pure Android 10 with the My UX overlay and all Moto add-ons: gestures to quickly start the camera and flashlight or the excellent always-on screen.
Motorola Moto G 5G Plus will go on sale in the coming weeks.
Will Motorola's new smartphone be a great success? Probably not, at least in Poland, where the 5G network infrastructure is still in its infancy and long months (if not years) will pass before we have reasonable coverage over the Vistula.
Nevertheless, we are pleased that if someone would like to buy a phone today that is ready for the development of the 5G network in Poland, they will not have to spend over PLN 2,000.
Motorola Moto G 5G Plus will certainly be a strong point in the offers of operators who, as yet, cannot boast of a wide range of equipment with 5G modems - because there are not many of them on the market.
The new Motorola is already in the editorial office. You can expect reviews in the coming weeks.
