Canon EOS R5 with 8K RAW 29.97 fps and 4K 119.88 fps The most interesting camera for years is coming

Canon gives new information on its flagship mirrorless camera: Canon EOS R5. It promises to be even more interesting.

In mid-February, Canon announced the flagship Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera . A month later, the Japanese producer revealed a bit more details about him . A little over the next month has passed and we are learning more details again. In this way, we draw a really interesting whole.

8K RAW up to 29.97 fps and 4K 119.88 fps

Canon EOS R5 will allow internal recording of RAW files in 8K quality at up to 29.97 fps without crop (4: 2: 2 10-bit) in Canon Log (H.265) or 4: 2: 2 10- HDR PQ bit (H.265). In fact, this is the most important information in this whole message. Information that contradicts many theories about the camera, which said that the new body will not cope with such advanced features, and the inscription 8K on its packaging is just a marketing fake. Canon clearly shows that critics were wrong, and the 8K mode is to be a full-fledged film mode.

However, this is not all. The huge processing power of the camera means that the Canon EOS R5 also impresses with the possibilities in 4K mode. The new body offers internal crop-free recording in 4K resolution up to 119.88 fps (4: 2: 2 10-bit) in Canon Log (H.265) or 4: 2: 2 10-bit HDR PQ (H. 265). For this we have 4K 59.94 fps 4: 2: 2 10-bit in Canon Log or 4: 2: 2 10-bit HDR PQ on HDMI output. Some popular mirrorless cameras still don't offer 4K 60fps, let alone 120fps. Therefore, it is clear that Canon does not want to jump to the competition this time, as it did for many years, and jump over it with a long jump.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF in each movie mode

We already knew that Canon EOS R5 is equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Now the Japanese manufacturer confirms that the Dual Pixel AF function will work in all video modes in every resolution and frame.

Canon EOS R5

Let's not forget that the new camera will also be equipped with an advanced AF system that recognizes animals - dogs, cats or birds. Detection and probably tracking of animals is not only based on eye detection, but also on the basis of figure when the eyes are not visible.

5-axis optical image stabilization (IBIS)

Very important information is the fact that the Canon EOS R5 will receive a stabilized full frame sensor. It is still not officially known what the resolution of the new sensor will be, although it unofficially looks like it will be 40 Mpix.

We already know, however, that Canon EOS R5 will receive 5-axis optical image stabilization (IBIS) using IS lens technology and IBIS in the camera. This means that the image will be stabilized when attaching non-IS lenses. And if we use stabilized glass, the body will detect it and the additional effectiveness will increase. This solution is well known from many other cameras, but it's good to know that it will be possible in the new EOS R5.

Canon EOS R5

We already knew that Canon EOS R5 has two slots for memory cards. Now Canon has revealed that these will be 1x CFexpress and 1x SD UHS-II slots.

Now we know a lot about Canon EOS R5, although there are still some questions

4K 120fps mode is impressive and extremely useful for anyone who uses images in slow motion, but what will be the quality of this image? And what about sound? The body is not big, so I wonder what the battery life will be? How can Canon EOS R5 handle overheating? Will it have any restrictions during recording? CFexpress cards are very expensive and 8K files take up a lot of space, so maybe it will be possible to connect to the disk body via USB-C, like Blackmagic cameras?

Canon EOS R5 is the most interesting camera of this company since 2008

Why since 2008? Because it was then that the Canon EOS 5D Mark II revolutionary SLR camera, which was revolutionary for those times, made filming popular with cameras. EOS R5 will not carry out a similar revolution, if only because the market is completely different. Despite this, I think that the new mirrorless camera can mess up the market and get ahead of the competition. Competition that through the current crisis may delay the release of new cameras of this class, giving Canon an even greater advantage, at least for a slightly longer time.

The Canon EOS R5 is expected to appear in late May or early June. It's hard to say what Nikon is up to, but the birds are chirping that Sony is sharply lagging behind and is postponing the release of its new cameras.

Canon, which moved a large part of its production to Japan, also suffered a pandemic, but apparently not so large. And this is very good news against the background of many other, very pessimistic forecasts of the photographic industry market. It is said that such poor results were not long ago. Declines in the photographic equipment market reach 50 percent . The premiere of the Canon EOS R5 is therefore extremely positive information and a light of hope.
