Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was no press conference with the new LG TVs in Poland. The company, however, electronically shared information about new products with us.

The Polish press premiere of LG TVs was virtual. Unfortunately, this means that we did not have the opportunity to talk to representatives of the company and see the mentioned TVs live. Therefore, we have only very optimistic information about these products and - unfortunately - we do not know their prices. However, LG is one of the leaders on the television market and rarely disappoints. So, for the time being, we believe in positive information. Especially since the majority result from technical data.

LG attaches great importance to modern design, which is reflected in the three new models from the GX Gallery series with diagonals 55, 65 and 77 inches. They are extremely slim: the 65-inch model is only 20 mm thick and does not require connecting an external control module. So you can hang it on the wall like a picture and not worry about the bulge in the back that houses the electronics.

LG also places much more emphasis on 8K resolution this year. Definitely not like Samsung competing with it, but the company decided to go not so much in quantity as in quality. It rightly boasts that, unlike last year's competition models, 8K matrices from LG provide full 8K resolution, without using sub-pixel rendering and dithering techniques, which help to get better matrix parameters cheaper, but affect the effective image resolution. These full 8K will offer LG OLED ZX Real 8K TVs (88 OLED ZX and 77 OLED ZX models).

Fortunately, there will also be cheaper and OLED 4K TVs. In Poland, CX and BX 77, 65 and 55 inch models will be available for purchase. Later, the OLED CX series 48-inch TV for sale. In addition to OLED TV, LG also enriches NanoCell LCD TVs. Seven Real 8K models will appear (75- and 65-inch Nano99, Nano97 and Nano95 series and 55-inch Nano95).

Okay, but what's new? Apparently higher image quality. And important functions for players.

Most LG OLED and NanoCell TVs from 2020 use a new α 9 Gen 3 AI processor. Compared to its predecessor, it is a system with greater computing power and deep learning algorithms. However, we will only see how it affects the image in tests.

A much more interesting and welcome element is support for the HDMI standard in its latest version. Not only thanks to this they are able to receive 8K signal from external devices (which is possible and from the VOD application thanks to support for HEVC, VP9 and AV1 codecs), but also support ALLM (automatic switching to player mode with lower control delay) and eARC , thanks to which we can connect an external sound system with full support of modern standards, including Dolby Atmos.

The new LG TVs also support VRR (synchronization of matrix refresh with the work of the graphics system connected to the TV gaming console, which helps in obtaining a smooth picture), including its proprietary version of Nvidia G-Sync. There was also Filmmaker Mode, so the standard established this year consisting of the TV mode, in which instead of artificially embellishing the picture, it focuses on its most faithful reproduction. There will also be support for the Dolby Vision IQ mechanism that adapts the image parameters to the current lighting of our living room in the case of content encoded in Dolby Vision.

The last of the new features is the Sports Alert function, which makes it easier to follow the games of your favorite team by displaying information about the beginning of the match and informing about current results or match schedules. Users can choose from leagues in many sports, such as football, basketball and American football. In addition, two Bluetooth speakers can be connected to the TV at the same time to surround the viewers with sounds from the stands. Unfortunately, we don't know anything more about this function for today and how it relates to local Polish sporting events.

Now we are just waiting for prices.

Unfortunately, no TV producer gives official prices at its press events. These depend on trading partners and distributors. At physical events, however, it was possible to ask about the suggested prices in the lobby - unfortunately there were no lobbyrooms this time. Unfortunately, we are left to follow popular price comparison websites, probably new LG TVs will appear in them soon.
