Facebook in the browser finally caught up with that of smartphones. We re checking a new look

Some Facebook users can already test the new website design. The desktop version is more and more like the appearance of a mobile application. Works much better and supports dark mode.

During last year's F8 conference, Facebook announced a redesign of its desktop and mobile applications. Redesign was baptized as New Facebook and was to focus on groups and events, and less on news.

Announcements are a bit diverging from reality.

At the top of the interface we see four buttons:

  • Home - the home screen, where news from all our activities are intertwined.
  • Marketplace - shopping in the area.
  • Groups - group management.
  • Gaming - live stream from watched pages.

The whole looks much more transparent and works faster than the previous version. Dark redesign adds charm, which is slowly becoming the standard of all web applications.

Marketplace and groups with a slight refreshment.

Both elements seem to play a key role in the Facebook ecosystem. Now, only cosmetic changes have affected them.

It is a little easier to manage all groups of which we are members.

Streaming comes to the fore.

By opening the tab with games we will immediately get to the proposed stream and we can quickly switch between different channels or streams from the watched pages.

We can also observe specific games.

The tab with games appeared at the beginning of last year, but before it did not play such an important role.

Profile look refreshed.

Now they are even closer to the view from mobile devices.

The view of individual photos with comments has remained virtually unchanged.

The conversation and notification pane looks a bit nicer now. It's very good that Facebook now darkens the rest of the site when we want to focus on the news.

Dark mode can be turned off.

By clicking on your own picture in the upper right you are transferred to settings that also allow you to view preferences, privacy rules and move to an earlier version of the interface.

After a few hours with the new Facebook, I can clearly say that I am a fan of the direction in which the front-end of the website is going. It's faster and nicer. Less information displayed on the screen at the same time makes using the website much more enjoyable.

The new version of the interface has already hit the users of mobile applications.

Now the test roll-out begins also in desktop browsers. The new version of Facebook is expected to reach a wider group of users in the spring.
