Poland has become a home for 200,000 Ukrainians

Over 200,000 Ukrainians in Poland now have a valid long-term residence permit in the country. Most immigrants from the Eastern border are 20-39 years old and live in the Masovia Province.

According to Jakub Dudziak from the Office for Foreigners, since the beginning of the year, in the last 6 months, the number of citizens of Ukraine who have a valid long-term residence permit has increased by 12 percent. and crossed the border in 200,000 people.

The given data includes only those Ukrainians who have a temporary residence permit (up to 3 years), permanent residence or a long-term resident EU card. However, the data does not include persons staying in the country temporarily on the basis of a visa or visa-free travel. Usually, these are seasonal workers, who can be over 1 million.

Over 50,000 have been published over the last year long-term residence permits.

Today, over 200,000 Ukrainians have valid residence cards that allow you to live and work in Poland. As of 1 January 2018, the number of issued permits was 145,000, which means an increase of 28%. compared to data as of July 2019.

The vast majority of Ukrainians have temporary residence permits (up to 3 years).

Ukrainians who plan to settle in Poland for longer - because of work, study, etc. - should submit an application and necessary documents to the Office for Foreigners in the place of residence. Foreigners who meet the conditions for granting the permit receive a valid residence card, which gives them the right to stay in the country for the period of validity of the document.

The vast majority of Ukrainian citizens have a temporary residence permit (up to 3 years) - it is 158 thousand. people. The right to permanent residence and a long-term resident EU card has nearly 42 thousand. Ukrainians in Poland.

As a rule, the first residence permit is issued to the foreigner for a period not longer than 15 months, and the second permit may be issued for a period of up to 3 years. The validity period of a card usually depends on the type of contract signed with the employer and its period, or - in the case of students - the estimated date of graduation.

The Masovian Voivodeship has become home to most Ukrainians in Poland.

Among the Ukrainians in Poland who have long-term residence permits, the following are most popular:

Mazowieckie - 45 thousand people
Greater Poland - 22 thousand people
Lesser Poland - 21.5 thousand people
Lower Silesia - 15.5 thousand people
Silesia - 14 thousand people.

About 57 percent Ukrainians in Poland are between the ages of 20 and 39, 30 percent. - aged 40-59 and 11 percent - up to 20 years.

Among the Ukrainians who have valid residence permits in Poland, men prevail - 115 thousand. (57%), and women make 86 thousand. (43 percent).

Jakub Dudziak, spokesman for the Office for Foreigners adds that Ukrainian citizens now account for 50 percent. all foreigners in Poland who hold a valid long-term residence permit.

From my own experience I know that just having a temporary stay card by a Ukrainian does not mean that he plans to settle in Poland forever. Such cards are given to those who have found an interesting job offer or are currently studying in the country. However, after the expiration of the 15-month or even 3-year period, they can leave the country. As the research, about which we wrote on Bizblog.pl shows , about 45 percent. Ukrainians in Poland want to change the country of residence.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt that more and more of my compatriots see Poland as a home, not just a workplace. Another indicator that confirms this is that Ukrainians are buying the largest number of foreign real estate in Poland .
