Oppo Reno costs PLN 2199. At this price you get a shark fin

Oppo Reno is the latest line of Chinese company equipment, which this year began to fight for its position on the Polish market. In practice, we tested both new devices that distinguish cameras: the front of the slider and the main with a periscope zoom 10x.

At the beginning of 2019, another producer from China officially started selling his phones in Poland. Previously, Oppo, one of the largest companies in the mobile segment in the world, associated only real enthusiasts of new technologies in our country. It is slowly changing.

New smartphones from the Oppo Reno family can help.

The new line of devices consists of two twin phones. The basic one is Oppo Reno, but in addition to it, the better-equipped Oppo Reno 10X appeared. The distinguishing feature of both models is the front camera. The manufacturer has once again decided on the so-called slider, or the mechanism of the camera's eye sliding out of the housing.

This is not the first time that this manufacturer has decided on a similar solution. The retractable camera in Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10X, however, looks a bit different than in the Oppo Find X, which could already be bought in Poland. This time we are dealing with a design resembling the shape of a shark fin.

It is true that both new devices were presented at the beginning of this month in China, but today in Zurich there was the European premiere of Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10X, on which I had the opportunity to appear. Thanks to this, I tested in practice how the cameras work in new phones.

Slider in Oppo Reno works so well that at first I totally forgot about him.

Taking this opportunity, I took the new Oppo phone in my hand and started to play it like any other mobile phone. It was only after a moment that I remembered that after switching the apparatus, the motor was started, which pulls the camera out of the housing. According to the manufacturer's promises, it lasts 0.8 seconds.

I was afraid of visible delays, but in practice they are not a problem. After pressing the button that changes the preview from the main camera to the camera for selfie photos, the image of my face appeared in the frame immediately. The photos look really good - at least on the phone screen.

With the passing of judgments about the quality of photos taken Oppo Reno, I will wait until the device goes to our editorial office, and we will be able to look at the photographs on the computer monitor. Only then will we find out whether the camera in the slider is a good idea, or the hypertrophy of form over the content.

There is no way to complain about the specification of Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10X.

The basic model Oppo Reno has a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels, which translates into a density of 402 ppi. The phone has a mass of only 165 grams, and its dimensions are only 156.6 mm x 74.3 mm x 9 mm - almost frameless display occupies as much as 93.1 percent. front that covers the Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The heart of the device is the Qualcomm SDM710 processor with the Adreno 616 graphics chip, which supports, depending on the version, 6 GB or 8 GB RAM. Added to this is 128 GB or even 256 GB of space for the operating system and data. Working time is still a big unknown, but the 3765 mAh link bodes well. There were of course LTE modem, GPS modules, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi ac etc.

Oppo Reno 10X looks very similar to the cheaper model, but it is a bit bigger - its screen has a 6,6-inch diagonal. However, the resolution is the same - 2340 by 1080 pixels - so their density is slightly lower here and is exactly 387 ppi. In practice, however, this difference can not be seen at all.

Added to this is another processor - in the Oppp Reno 10X model, the manufacturer decided on the SM8150 chip with Adreno 640 graphics. The larger screen also has a better battery - the power cell has a capacity of 4065 mAh. The biggest difference between the two new Oppo phones is, however, the camera.

The main distinguishing feature of the Oppo Reno line is the front camera in the slider, but it is not the only surprise that the Chinese company has prepared. In the Oppo Reno 10X model, a rather unusual main camera appeared.

In the basic Oppo Reno model, the main photographic unit consists of two lenses: 48 Mpix (f / 1.7) and an additional 5 Mpix (f / 2.4). In the Oppo Reno 10X main lens taking photos with a resolution of 48 Mpix (f / 1.7 With double optical stabilization) complement the wide-angle lens 8 Mpix (f / 2.2) and periscope telephoto 13 Mpix (f / 3.0).

It is worth mentioning that the company boasted for the first time with its new camera with three lenses nearly two months ago in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress 2019. The 10x zoom module was then pressed into an enclosure based on the older smartphone of a Chinese company.

Even then, working under the control of the test software, the camera was impressive. A ten-fold zoom was achieved by combining two lenses in one camera: an ultra-wide angle (equivalent to 16 mm) and a telephoto (equivalent to 160 mm). Of course, if we count the zoom, taking the main lens as the base, as the competition does, zooming without resorting to digital zoom will actually be a bit smaller.

The icing on the cake in the Oppo Reno series is the NFC module.

Oppo is just learning the European market, but it can be seen that the company drew conclusions from the constructive criticism that it encountered after its debut in our country due to the lack of an NFC module in most of the models. This was true even for the most expensive Oppo Find X.

The Chinese on the NFC module do not rely, so such a decision in the case of smartphones designed for the domestic market was understandable. In the case of models addressed to European countries - not necessarily anymore. Fortunately, Oppo Reno and Oppo Reno 10X are equipped with an NFC module, so you can use them to make Google Pay contactless payments.

From April 25, 2019, Oppo Reno smartphones will be available for pre-sale in Poland in selected stores and operators. Polish prices are not yet known, but we know that:

  • The Oppo Reno Series has been priced at EUR 499 and will be available from May 10,
  • Oppo Reno 10x Zoom has been priced at EUR 799 and will be available at the beginning of June,
  • Oppo Reno 5G has been priced at 899 euros and will be available in May.

Oppo Reno smartphones in the price of PLN 2199 will be available for pre-sales in the MediaMarkt online stores, x-com and the Oppo brand zone on Allegro from April 25 and from the mobile operator Play on April 26. As part of the pre-sale for each copy of Oppo Reno, the wireless JBL Clip 3 will be added.
