The medium campaign, but the multiplayer rules supreme! Battlefield V - review

The heat is pouring from the sky. The heated roof tiles of the church are burning from underneath. Well, this full uniform. I wanted it myself, pulling out the enemy sniper nest. Now I see a small spot in the distance. I pull the trigger, I take my eye away from the telescope and reload it. You get +200 points. The hired hired. But I missed it! I missed total war, on the seas, lands and in the skies. At great distances. Using heavy equipment. Battlefield V is much better than I thought.

I think we agree that the PR department representing DICE and EA did everything to discourage fans of the series to play Battlefield V. The first trailer was terrible. DISASTROUS. In addition, showing the editor of characters with prostheses, katanas and other ornaments completely disregarded the expectations of the community. We wanted a dirty, heavy, bathed in the pitch and fire climate. I've been playing Battlefield V for a few days and you know what - I really feel it. The shooting does not have any quirks about the first trailer.

No one runs with prostheses on Battlefield V servers, and soldiers are a minority.

At the beginning of the review I feel obliged to unscrew what the PR department has ruined. Battlefield V is a second-war shooting of flesh and blood. I see soldiers in standard uniforms on the battlefields. Without katan. Without dentures. No moonshans and no tomahawks. They hold in their hands well-known weapons like Lee-Enfield Mk I, Kar98k , M1A1 , StG44, Sten or MP40 . Even the beloved M1928A1 Thompson will be found. Nobody stands out above the range here nor does anyone stand out with a neon suit like Fortnite or Call of Duty .

Battlefield V offers a character wizard that initially does not allow much. More extravagant uniforms cost so much that you will spend long days and weeks to unlock them. Currently, one of the most unique objects to be created is ... a gas mask. Everyone was running in BF1 . I do not see a katana or prostheses anywhere. Probably the producers get scared of criticism and will add these decorations over time. DICE swears that every uniform in the game has a historical background and comes from the period of the Second World War.

It is also not that I am disturbed by a figure with a prosthesis or a katana on my back. Let them be like that in time. However, I like the fact that the game producers decided on a standard set of accessories. If that were not enough, to get the most-conspicuous ones, you have to fulfill the challenges. These are not easy, so the reward should be effective.

As for the soldiers - the wizard allows you to play a woman, but does not force it. It's only a player's decision. Sam chose female avatars for the medics class, because it suited me to the war nurses. Oh, such a variety with support, scouts and stormtroopers. It is a pity that the Polish dubbing of female characters is horrible. Really terrible.

The campaign campaign in Battlefield V is at most medium states.

The single player module consists of three short stories divided into chapters. In December there will be a free fourth story in which we will play ... a German officer. The three previous stories are also interesting. As in the case of Battlefield 1, DICE has focused on less known, less popular events. Thanks to this, we have the opportunity to become a member of the resistance movement, a British robber or a French immigrant. It's all a refreshing perspective. Something new.

Unfortunately, interesting ideas alone are not enough. In terms of gameplay, the BFV campaign is quite so. Average. Schematic. There are few filmed, scripted actions here. It's too many szwendania after the open maps and search znajdziek. Each story was divided into three template missions: one with stealth, the other focused on exploration, the third focused on the fight. I am using a certain generalization, but the rigid division key is all too visible.

The Battlefield V campaign has nothing to do with the Bad Company 2 or even Battlefield 3. In this respect, the competitive Call of Duty : WWII eats this title for breakfast. On the other hand, I have to praise DICE for not having taken the easy way. Instead of using ready-made multiplayer maps, they created unique environments for the campaign. The fact that the developers have prepared a gigantic slope of the Norwegian mountain so that the player could ski for a few minutes, shows a serious approach to the client who wants to play offline.

The most important is multiplayer. Battlefield V as one of the few hits already works on the premiere.

I must admit that in the same period of premiere, I did not play well on BF4 servers (if they worked) or BF1 . For the first time since 2011 everything works as it should. Searching for the game and getting out of the skirmish does not take several minutes. The menu does not fail. It does not overload the responsiveness of the commands. During matchmaking, the entire interface and all settings are at the player's disposal. Calling friends' beams is immediate. After years of technological battlefield, Battlefield premieres its work properly. So, you can.

Along with technical stability goes the thoughtful game. In contrast to BF1, the new DICE game from the very day of its release offers berets of merit, orders, daily challenges or rebirth on the backs of companions. After a dozen or so hours on the servers, I do not think of any mechanism that requires immediate implementation. In BF1 I would have two pages of postulates. It's good that this time DICE uses earlier achievements and does not try to reinvent the wheel.

Of course, there is still a lot to do. The number of modes and options that will be added in December only shocks. The most important feature that joins the community and friends - War Theater - will appear in some time. The same as the unique skins to be applied to vehicles, as well as the testing ground. Over time, players will also get Battle Royale mode. DICE thus plays a very dangerous game. Icons on the menu with the entry "coming soon" is something that not everyone will like. On the other hand, I have something to wait for, and the mode of conquest in 64 players works perfectly.

Well, conquest, 64 players, vehicles, total war ... but I missed it!

The classic multiplayer in Black Ops 4 is nice, but it turns into Overwatch . World War 3 turned out to be a huge disappointment. Multi in Far Cry 5 is ambitious but poorly polished. For someone who craves total war, with a horde of players at the same time visible on the screen, there is nothing better than Battlefield V. Well, of course, except for Battlefield 3, which is still holding amazingly well.

I have the impression that there are fewer vehicles in the Battlefield V than in the Three and Four. The column of three tanks driving one after the other is still observable. However, this is a much rarer view than in the previous scenes. More is happening in the sky, as if DICE deliberately wanted to emphasize the key role of aviation in second-world conflicts. Five, six machines above the heads are not surprising. It is astonishing that players are no longer using off-road vehicles. These stand abandoned in every corner.

It is a pity that the BF1 model for heavy armored vehicles will be entered only from the level of the tactical map. Empty tanks do not appear magically in the base. It has its good sides. Players will focus on running activities instead of standing and waiting for machine deliveries. For this, enemy players can not destroy vehicles before they go to battle. But that was part of that battlefield uniqueness; a clever and resourceful soldier was able to bomb tanks in the enemy base, giving the team an advantage in capturing the central flag.

The ratio of infantry to vehicles is similar to that of Battlefield 1. In general it is good proportions that force players to engage. However, I can not help but miss the wildness of the ill-conceived system from BF1942 , BF2 and BF3. A tear in my eye turns when I mention how it was argued on the aircraft carrier about who would be the next fighter pilot. Here is missing. There are more clashes in BFV , more contact and active movement of the front lines. The dynamics of the game gains, but loses some selfish fancy.

Being selfish, it's wonderful to be a sniper again. No CoD gives such opportunities.

I got the impression that, apart from the maps of Narvik and Rotterdam, Battlefield V is quite flat. Topography of the area has become much more lowland and homogeneous. It is vain to look for skyscrapers that you can climb and elevators that bring players to the roofs of buildings. It does not change the fact that DICE has done absolutely nothing to weaken the sharpshooters. And very, very good. Battlefield V is one of the few games in which it is still worth being a sniper. I love the scout class.

I am taking 75 percent. strength after hitting the torso. Death immediately after a shot in the head. Snipers are deadly effective. I have the impression that the creators slightly weakened the forces of physics affecting the flying projectile. With x3 optics, the player does not have to apply any corrections to the viewfinder image. With x6 optics, the patches will be minimal. You see? You shoot. You kill. It's best to lie on the roof of a building. Snipers still have a fierce aggressive flash of telescope, but let's face it - what will a support soldier do when he sees me from 300 meters?

Of course, it's not art to lie on your stomach and grab five frags throughout the match. DICE has an idea for a scout. This one not only eliminates goals from a distance, but also supports rebids for the team. Its role as a portable reproductive tool is accented more strongly than ever before. This is evidenced by the sniper's subclass , which focuses precisely on crossing the front lines and setting respawn sites behind the enemy's back. Miodzio. Raspberry. Peanuts.

Other classes also give advice.

Stormtroopers (who have absorbed the mechanic class) already have panzerfaust in their inventory. This makes them deadly to tanks. If that was not enough, at the higher level of damage experience, the vehicle means the whole team. The support class traditionally throws ammo where it falls, guaranteeing the player a lot of easy experience points. Well, there is nothing like her solid fire on bipod. Enemies pinned with such a series become visible to other players, which I think is a great decision.

The medic initially seems so. Sure, he can pick up the defeated players at the speed of light, but in BFV the team members can also resuscitate the comrades. Therefore, the medic becomes interesting only after pushing a dozen or so levels of experience. It can then be profiled for a quick, reactive contact bluff with a rifle and an increased range of attack with white weapons. Such a build will sow terror in narrow, dark corridors. Only that those in BFV are like medicine.

I am a great supporter of new mechanisms that affect the balance of the game.

I liked the fact that planes do not have unlimited bombs that would regenerate over time (the same applies to shells in a tank). You threw away all loads? Well, get back to the base for more. You do not need to land in the hangar (because there are no landing sites). Just fly over the base, and the ammunition is completed. Interestingly, the stocks are also replenished after the flight over the enemy base (?!). In this way, bombers can conduct easy and enjoyable courses, but there is no way to spam bombs.

I am also happy with the opponent marking mechanisms. We can no longer indicate these to other players as in BF1 or BF4 . Even the scout must first hit the enemy soldier so that others can see the marker above his head. Support now can point enemies with fire, while the stormtrooper selects armored enemy units by dealing damage. Battlefield V is no longer illuminated with icons like a Christmas tree. A player who wants to hide neatly has more room to maneuver. Oddly enough, the chaos on servers is not bigger.

Attachment capabilities have also been weakened. Now it is not enough to throw ammo boxes into the crowd of allies. Everyone interested must approach the box, look at it and pick up the ammunition with the share button. Only then the support soldier gets points. The same applies to first aid kits. A player without ammunition must want to get it. He must show initiative. This is not going to appeal to people who make amazing results by throwing boxes to the left and right.

I also liked the fact that the tanks are neither too strong nor too weak. In open spaces such as arable fields, machines are second to none. A tank set on a hill is a powerful weapon that can tip the scales of victory. But the tank in the city is like a coffin on caterpillars. The awareness that a panzerfaust stormtrooper may appear in every window is tough. In Rotterdam, tanks are usually operational for several dozen seconds. Urban pogrom.

It must be a carrot on a stick. I need to have a reason to go back to the servers. I got him this time.

The fundamental difference between BF1 and BFV is the sense of progression. DICE understood that the gameplay alone was not enough. Players must have a carrot on a stick. A promise of better weapons, more interesting uniforms, additional skills and new gadgets. The BF1 lacked an addictive mechanism that would keep me at the screen. Fortunately, the development path is in Battlefieldzie V so much that the progression system will receive a separate entry on the Spider 's Web. This can not be accommodated in two paragraphs. That's why I am writing here only this: DICE stood up to the task.

For nothing, however, progress, if the game itself is not pleasant. So what is the BFV shooting model? Just correct. As in every installment of the series. The exchange of fire is not as satisfying as in Destiny 2 (for me the role model). Fortunately, it is also not as severe and stiff as in Battlefield 1942. Shooting is "just there," existing as a way to emotions evoked on other levels. It's a means to an end, not an end in itself. This is nicely connected with the philosophy of Battlefield , which does not decide on the winner based on the number of frags. Which does not change the fact that Bungie could fall into DICE and give the boys a few lessons on the use of weapons.

BFV has achieved something that the creators at BF1 failed to do. I can not imagine a day without playing at least one map. I want to come back. I want to perform daily missions and assignments. For this I can not wait to play with my friends in Battlefield , after the official premiere.

Battlefield V will be the best version since 2011.

I have no doubts about it. Despite the terrible PR and idiotic advertising plan, the game will win the hearts of the fans of the series. The title will regain the players' favor with climate, possibilities, balance, progression system and the fact that there is always something to do at BFV . I have a reason to start this game every evening, and the best is just ahead of me. Authentically, I count down the days to run the Theater of War. I can not wait to see what will come out of it.

It is a pity that the creators sabotaged such a successful project at their own request. Testing the pre-release version of the game, I feel that the developers know where they made mistakes. When they bend. Where they went against their own community. That's why Battlefield V premieres zero prostheses, no katanas, but a hundred percent playability . If the One has left you unsatisfied, you will be satisfied this time. For me, this is the new king of network shootings on medium and large scale.

The biggest advantages:

  • The best multiplayer since Battlefield 3 in 2011.
  • I have a reason to play - the progression system catches the screen
  • There are no dentures, no katanas, there is a total war in a post-war climate
  • New - old classes with a great division into responsibilities
  • Interface, menu, lobby, matchmaking - everything works for the premiere
  • Paths of development for weapons!
  • What I get is something interesting - new challenges, skins, missions, weapons, gadgets
  • New elements of the game have a positive effect on the balance
  • As usual, DICE offers the best possible sound quality
  • Undertake the original subject in the offline campaign.

The biggest drawbacks:

  • A short, schematic, bland campaign
  • Theater of War, poligon and battle royale mode unavailable for premiere
  • Poor Polish dubbing, disastrous for female characters
  • A lot of maps are quite flat
  • The shooting model is always at most correct

Honestly? I did not think I would be so happy with any DICE game yet.
